May Special of the Month

The enclosed part, a 5/16-18 X 13/16 special set screw, represents yet another facet of our unique manufacturing competencies. It highlights our automatic screw machining capabilities.

Used by the leading manufacturer of drill tool connectors for the construction industry, the set screw is characterized by the shortness of threads, while maintaining the axis of the pitch diameter of the threads concentric with the 0.244" and 0.185" diameters. These concentricity relationships are important to the application, as it assures proper alignment of the mating part. While maintaining these concentricities, keeping the diametrical tolerances of the two cylinders at +/- 0.002" is also very important. Size conformance is continuously maintained, with production rates at 850 pieces per hour.

Through modification of the final operation, we are able to maintain a Class 3A thread fit. This fit is challenging due to the shortness and number of pitches of threads, relative to the overall length.

These parts were produced complete on an automatic screw machine, heat treated in-house, and cad plated.
