Supplying parts for the medical industry is
always tricky. Besides exacting material and dimensional specifications, extra care must
be taken to insure that all potential contaminates are removed. The June Special of the
Month, used to fasten tubes within an X-Ray machine, is no exception.
For this special 6-40 X 0.315 socket head cap screw, all production equipment was thoroughly decontaminated prior to manufacturing, using special coolants as well. Surface contamination is minimized through unique tooling and cleaning processes.
To avoid catastrophic breakdown of the apparatus, when subjected to high voltages, all process burrs and loose materials are removed through additional debarring and cleaning. Final inspection examines parts at 20 times magnification.
While most dimensions are standard, this part does have a relatively short shoulder, with the bearing surface within .001 and the perpendicularity to the body also within .001 (.002 is standard).
